What is a Dental Implant?

A dental implant is a stable and permanent replacement for one or more missing teeth. At our dental implant center, this procedure consists of a few steps.

1. Insert the dental implant post. This is where a titanium screw is surgically placed in the jawbone where the missing tooth is. The post acts as a root to place the fake tooth on and ensures that the dental implant is stable.

2. Undergo a period of healing. It takes between 3-6 months for the jawbone to bond with the biocompatible dental implant post.

3. An artificial tooth is attached to the dental implant post. This tooth looks natural and will enable you to chew food just like a natural tooth would.

Do I Need Dental Implant Surgery?

Dental implants involve surgically attaching a metal post to your jawbone to act as the root of your missing tooth. The titanium in the post fuses to your jawbone so that the implant won’t slip, damage your bone, or make noise. Additionally, since the post is titanium, it won’t decay. If you are experiencing one or more of these conditions, a dental implant may be right for you.

  • You cannot wear dentures or do not want dentures
  • You want to improve your smile
  • You want to chew food more comfortably
  • You have one or more missing teeth

Dental Implant Types

Depending on the number of teeth you need to replace, we offer three types of dental implants.

Single-tooth Implant

This implant is ideal for when you are only missing one tooth or the gaps of missing teeth are in different areas of your mouth.

Multiple-tooth Implant

If you have two or more missing teeth in a row, we suggest a multiple tooth implant.

Full-mouth Implant

When you are missing all your teeth, we offer a full-mouth dental implant.

Endosteal vs. Subperiosteal Dental Implants

Dental implants come in two main varieties: endosteal implants and subperiosteal implants. Endosteal implants support one or more replacement teeth and are usually the shape of a cylinder or screw. Supberiosteal implants use a metal post that is designed to stick up and through your gums. This type of dental implant is optimal for those who don’t have enough jawbone support for endosteal implants.
